A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SOUTH PANOLA HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE STATE CLASS 5A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND BEING THE NO. 1 RANKED FOOTBALL TEAM IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, the South Panola High School Tiger Football Team is the 1998 state Class 5A champion; and
WHEREAS, the South Panola High School Tiger Football Team finished the season as the No. 1 football team in the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, in the Tigers' march to the championship, the Tigers won their division title and the North Mississippi title; and
WHEREAS, in the playoffs, the Tigers steamrolled through the opposition and incredibly outscored the playoff opponents 162 to 30; and
WHEREAS, in the championship game, the Tigers manhandled and dominated its then No. 1 ranked and undefeated opponent 45-17; and
WHEREAS, after a heart-stopping and heartbreaking loss in the first game of the season, the Tigers came roaring back and won 14 straight games; and
WHEREAS, the resiliency and tenacity shown by the Tigers are characteristic of championship teams; and
WHEREAS, the Tigers were superbly coached and led by Head Coach Ed Stanley and Assistant Coaches Mark Weaver, Bubba Bonds, Arnie Oakes, Danny Ray Cole and Dave Hardy; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend meritorious accomplishments, especially when achieved by the youth of the state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend the South Panola High School Tiger Football Team for its outstanding 1998 season, for winning the Class 5A championship and for being the No. 1 football team in the State of Mississippi.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the South Panola High School Tiger Football Team.
